Can a dental therapist do Botox?

Aesthetics is an exciting line of work that can introduce greater variety into your day and increase your income.

With the fast-growing demand for aesthetic treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers, right now is a great time to add to your portfolio of skills and become qualified to administer these procedures.

As a dental therapist, you already have many of the skill sets required for this work. With your high standards of medical training, you are currently in the perfect position to undertake a one-day course that puts you in a position to profit from the medical aesthetics market.

Whether you’re currently working in the NHS or private practice, you’re eligible for the training courses offered at Dr Hennessy Academy.

And, with many dentists themselves now training and running clinics alongside their dental practice, there are some amazing opportunities to work with a dentist who can consult and prescribe Botox for your patients.

Train in Botox and dermal fillers with Dr Hennessy

At the Dr Hennessy Academy, we routinely help a whole range of medical professionals to train in cosmetic procedures, allowing them to progress in their careers, broaden their professional horizons and earn an extra income. As well as dental therapists, we train dentists, doctors, nurses and midwives.

The advantage of Botox training and dermal filler training with Dr Hennessy BDS is that he comes from a dental background himself and now has over 20 years’ experience.

Dr Stephen Hennessy BDS added aesthetics services into his practice and has since become a leading expert in the industry. He has delivered aesthetic instruction for some of the biggest names around the world like Galderma and Allergan. With experience in delivering lectures on the topic of Botox, and with a popular aesthetic procedure named after him, Dr Hennessy is definitely one of the best individuals who you could learn from to begin your career transformation.

Working with Mrs Alisha Stonier, RGN NP, he combines the latest research with his first-hand experience to deliver an excellent all-round training package.

What are the benefits of learning at the Dr Hennessy Academy?

At our training academy in Preston, we run full day courses where we teach you everything that you need to know so you can start administering aesthetic services and launch your own company.

We recommend that dental therapists learning Botox attend our combined Botox & Dermal Filler Foundation Course. While you may find that, with your experience, you learn this information very quickly, it is always best to ensure you have a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge and practical skill before you learn any more advanced techniques.

As well as this, many dental therapists won’t have acquired the business knowledge needed to start their own business. Our foundation course has a whole module on getting started in business, and alumni from our course can always get back in touch with us at any time in the future if they need answers to any business questions.

Aside from the business side of the industry, our course sets you up well for administering Botox on real patients because you will be working with real models on the day. We don’t believe in using plastic dummies to teach Botox on as they are not realistic and will set students up to fail once they leave our academy.

Every student in our small group training courses will administer Botox and dermal fillers on the key areas of a patient’s face under the close supervision of Dr Hennessy and Mrs Alisha Stonier. This way our students will be prepared for dealing with real models when they begin administering Botox by themselves.

What aesthetic training courses can I choose from?

We have various aesthetic training courses and cosmetics courses to choose from depending on your level of experience.

The Combined Botox and Dermal Filler Foundation Course only takes one day to complete and is always popular with our medical professionals.

Alternatively, to develop more knowledge and skill in a particular area, we also have the following courses available:

Apart from these courses, we also run observation evenings and can provide you with a bespoke one-to-one training course.

All of our courses have been certified for the appropriate number of CPD points and have been approved by Cosmetic Insure, Enhance Insurance, Hamilton Fraser and Lonsdale.

Frequently Asked Questions by Dental Therapists

No. Whilst dental hygienists and dental therapists can administer Botox if they are trained, competent and indemnified to do so, they cannot carry out the full-service of Botox because they are not qualified to prescribe it.

This is because Botox is a prescription-only medicine (POM) and needs to be prescribed by a registered doctor, dentist, or other healthcare professional who holds a V300 prescription qualification, after completing a full assessment of the patient.

In order to become a qualified dental therapist, you will have undergone a great deal of training and have an extensive, working knowledge of head and neck anatomy.

It’s not just your knowledge that stands you in good stead to make the change, a good dental therapist will also have exceptional patience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Your blend of empathy along with proficient, highly technical clinical skills and a sound understanding of health and safety, confidentiality and organisational skills also contribute to the skillset needed to underpin any good aesthetics practice.

You will also have the ability and experience of injecting and performing a range of non-surgical treatments which make you well placed to launch a successful career in aesthetics.

In the past it has been difficult for dental therapists to break into the field as many training companies would not accept you and some insurers wouldn’t cover you, we are delighted to be able to offer our extensive training programmes and can point you in the direction of relevant and reputable companies who will offer indemnity insurance.

So, whether you choose to work part-time alongside your existing job or make a full-time change, we will give you the theory, hands on experience and business support you need to start practicing as soon as you leave our Academy.

Yes! Working as an aesthetic practitioner administering Botox and dermal fillers can be a great way to supplement your income as a dental therapist.

More and more dental clinics are starting to offer Botox services for their patients every day and this is for a reason. Dental clinics have a reliable stream of clients who visit regularly. This lines up perfectly for the repeat delivery of Botox and dermal fillers and can add a substantial amount to your income without costing too much in terms of time and effort.

If your practice has no dentist that chooses to prescribe Botox for patients, then you can always work with another doctor, dentist or qualified prescriber and administer Botox outside of your main practice clinic.

We can provide you with details for Botox prescribers in your area once you have completed our course and give you all the help you’ll need to get started administering Botox alongside your dental work.
